What's Stainless Steel MIM?

The Stainless Steel Metal Injection Molding (MIM) process is an advanced manufacturing technique that combines the design flexibility of plastic injection molding with the strength and durability of stainless steel. This process is ideal for producing high-precision, complex-shaped components with excellent mechanical properties and surface finishes.

 

Key Steps in the MIM Process:

  • Feedstock Preparation: Fine stainless steel powder is mixed with a thermoplastic binder to create a homogeneous feedstock.

  • Injection Molding: The feedstock is injected into a mold to form a "green part" with the desired shape.

  • Debinding: The binder is removed through thermal or chemical processes, leaving a porous "brown part."

  • Sintering: The brown part is heated in a controlled atmosphere to densify the metal particles, resulting in a strong, fully dense stainless steel component.
