CNC Stainless Steel Turned Shafts Deep Groove Turning for Robotics Actuators

 

Material and Process Advantages

Stainless steel shafts are made of 17-4PH precipitation hardened stainless steel, and a deep groove turning process is used to machine a 0.5-2mm deep, ± 0.01mm precision annular groove on the surface of the shaft. This design not only reduces the weight of the shaft (by 15% -20%), but also improves fatigue resistance through stress dispersion effect (increasing fatigue life by 30%). In addition, the 17-4PH material has undergone H900 aging treatment, with a hardness of HRC 40-45 and a surface roughness of Ra 0.4 μ m, ensuring that the shaft body maintains a low friction coefficient (μ ≤ 0.12) during high-frequency reciprocating motion.

 

Industry Applications and Performance 

In Robotics Actors, this type of deep groove stainless steel shaft is widely used in joint drive units and linear modules. Its deep groove structure can accommodate more lubricating grease, significantly extending the maintenance cycle (from 500 hours to 2000 hours). Meanwhile, the corrosion resistance of 17-4PH makes it suitable for medical robots (such as surgical arms) and outdoor industrial robots (such as agricultural automation equipment), maintaining stable performance in pH 3-10 acidic and alkaline environments. Actual test data shows that the positioning accuracy of actuators equipped with such shafts can reach ± 0.005mm, with a repeat positioning error of less than 0.01mm, fully meeting the ISO 9283 industrial robot performance standard.
